Bring it to Him

Christians, every week when we check our children in for their classes at Church, they get a sticker with their name on it.  Inevitably, as the kids take their stickers, the backs of these stickers are handed directly to me, where I put them in my pocket.  Also, if the kids get gum, the wrapper is handed to me, which I take and hold on to.  Used tissues, I take those as well.  One Sunday, as I waited with my stub to pick up my kids, I was emptying my pockets and this morning it was full, they must have had some extra things with wrappers.  I realized at this moment that my kids automatically bring anything they don’t want or need to me, and I take it, no questions asked.

This is not limited to Church.  If we are at the zoo having a picnic, all cheese stick wrappers, fruit snack wrappers, empty juice boxes, even gum they are done chewing, gets brought to me with the full expectation that I will take it from them no matter how dirty, sticky, disgusting, or gross it is. I take it and dispose of it for them, why? Simply because I love them, and I love that they bring me all their junk, I gladly take it and remove the burden from them, so they can continue on in their life, without having to deal with it.

When God showed me that this is exactly how He expects us to be with Him, it really impacted me.  God wants all of our junk brought to Him, He asks us to do that, so He can remove it from our lives.  That’s just what fathers do.  The good, the bad, the gross, and the mundane. He wants it all, so we are not burdened with garbage in our lives.  God has not asked us to go through this life alone, He wants us to go through this life with Him together.  Part of God’s desire is to help us navigate this life, that’s why He sent us the Holy Spirit.

As we deal with all our baggage from before we are saved, sometimes it’s necessary to go through that baggage and get rid of all the junk we no longer need in our lives.  The easiest way to get rid of unwanted emotional, mental, or even physical baggage is to bring it to God, who will gladly take it all from us, so we can continue our lives unburdened from whatever could potentially hold us back.

God has a calling and purpose for each one of us, but we cannot and will not fufill it if we are trying to carry stuff around we were never meant to carry.  My kids never question IF I will take something from them, they hand it to me boldly, because they know that no matter what it is, I WILL take it from them and get rid of it.  I love that about my children, and I know that God loves it when we do the same to Him.

Father God, thank you so much for your willingness to take all of the garbage and junk from our lives.  Help us to come to you with anything that stresses us, worries us, hinders us, or stops us completely from living up to the desired standard of living you have attained for us in Christ.  We come boldly to your throne and hand you anything and everything that we don’t need, we ask you to help us keep our lives free and clear to serve you all the days of our lives in Jesus Name, Amen.

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT)

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.  Hebrews 12:1 (NIV)

Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully. I Peter 5:7 (AMPC)

Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God’s unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it]. Hebrews 4:16 (AMPC)
