Christians, everything that is impressive was once unimpressive. Everything amazing was once ordinary. In the beginning the earth was empty, dark, and formless. God started creating and now we have this amazing planet we marvel at today. Every amazing skyscraper was once just a plot of grassy land. Every great oak tree was once a small acorn. Even you and I , every single person of the 7 billion unique individuals on earth, everyone started out as a microscopic egg and sperm. God’s whole plan, His whole vision for this earth is based on the days of small beginnings.
The world was created in 6 days. We always say that Rome wasn’t built in a day, and we Christians should not expect the fulfillment of our calling to happen overnight. I know it is difficult, I have struggled with it myself many times, but I truly believe God wants us to embrace the day of small beginnings. If He did not put value and stock in it, He would just instantly change us overnight, prepare, promote, provide or prosper instantaneously. However, He does not, I truly believe He enjoys the process and as difficult as it is for us, He wants us to enjoy it too.
I grew up in Iowa, I lived 6 months in Illinois, and a few years in Indiana, so I have seen my share of corn crops. There is not anything all that inspiring about an empty dirt field and a bag of seed, but you put the two together, and with a little time and patience you see the sprouts. They seem to grow so slow in the beginning, by the fourth of July they are at least knee high, usually more, and they begin to take shape. After that they just explode filling the field and producing fruit. It all starts with those humble, small, what some would say unimpressive, but highly necessary days of small beginnings.
I write this to encourage you, to inspire and give you hope. Wherever God has you, as long as you know you are in His will, you may look around and wonder what you are doing, where you are, how this fits in the plan/promise God spoke over your life. It may be years, you only see minimal physical growth, trust in His nature, trust in His character, trust in His process. It is a day of small beginnings and in time, with patience, persistence, hope and faith, you WILL see God move, you will achieve the things He has for you, in Jesus name, Amen.
Who dares despise the day of small things, since the seven eyes of the Lord that range throughout the earth will rejoice when the chosen capstone in the hand of Zerubbabel? Zechariah 4:10 (NIV)
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. Genesis 1:1-2 (NIV)
He presented another parable to them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field; and this is smaller than all other seeds, but when it is full grown it is larger than the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.” Matthew 13:31-32 (NASB)
