Vote!

Christians, This is NOT an endorsement for any candidate.  This is NOT a typical post like I normally write.  This is simply an opportunity to act upon what we believe as Christians.

In less than a week, this nation will take part in a democratic process that is not universal throughout the world.  We have a very unique opportunity, that we do not have dictators, or kings, or military rule.  We live in a free country, that has been bought with the blood and bravery of generations before us.

As a Christian, we have the unique perspective that we reside in a democracy, yet our true home is a monarchy.  We have a king, but not just any king, we have the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords as our head.  When we understand that, we must also understand that everything we do on this earth, will one day be held accountable in our forever home, with Jesus.  This includes voting.

I really do understand that this election leaves a little bit more to be desired than most.  I am not going to get into the candidates, nor am I going to get into the policies, listing them out, then putting a lean to one side.  I have very strong convictions about this election, about the nation as a whole, but my convictions are based on my belief as a Christian.  I identify first as a Christian before a political party.  The difference that makes is that regardless of policy, position, or the person before me, I vote how I want to be judged.

As Christians, we are not judged by the standard of non-believers. We are not standing before God while He decides whether or not we go to eternity in Heaven or the lake of fire based on their choices.  Rather we stand before God and He judges us based upon our actions, our deeds we did on this earth, whether good or bad.  The basis of this judgement stems out of our heart motive.  Why is that so important?

The deeds and the actions we do in secret, in private will determine how we spend eternity forever, and I for one, want to make sure that my eternal life is as good as it could ever be.  I do not want to have the wrong heart motive here, and have it cost me for eternity.  God will lay bare all of our deeds, all of our actions, all of our thoughts, all the things we did, or thought of doing.  He will expose us for who we were on this earth, not to condemn us, but to reward us.  It may sound like a harsh and negative thing, but if your heart is in the right place, it will be a very pure and rewarding experience!

On November 8th, we have a decision to make.  Some may decide to stay home, some will vote one way, some will vote another, God will judge us all.  I have never taken an election so seriously in my life, but I have never had the full understanding of my position in all of it.  You may think your vote does not really count or it doesn’t matter.  In ETERNITY every VOTE counts, every word counts, every thought counts, every action counts.  When you do nothing, you are saying to God, I don’t care, it doesn’t matter.  It does matter to Him.  Depending on how you vote, you are saying so much to God.  What you want in life, what you agree with, what you do not agree with.  You are voting for a political system, not a person.  Take the person out of it, look at the platform, and vote for the things that you believe matter to God, not to you.

Four years is not that long, FOREVER IS!  Make sure you do not let other people, society, media, your family, friends, or co-workers sway your vote.  Only God matters.  Only His opinion of what you are doing, and WHY you are doing it matters.  Are you voting to please Him, what matters to His heart, or are you voting to prove a point, make a statement, or make others mad?  Everything we do, Christians, should be rooted and grounded in LOVE.  I cannot say it will be easy, I cannot say it will happen overnight, but we should LOVE our candidates, with the love of Christ.  We should love the office of the President. I know I have failed many times in this area, and I repent.  You know you can love someone and completely disagree with everything they are doing in their life?  You know Jesus did that for us on the cross?  While we were STILL sinners He died for us, He cast HIS VOTE, as He laid down His life.  He said, YES, they are worth it, my chosen child!  If we can gain some perspective of this, then we can serve God, and this country much better than we have been.  GET OUT AND VOTE, pray as you stand before the ballot, pray for this nation, pray for the President, and pray for your eternal self, who will live with this decision forever, in Jesus Name, Amen.

It is written:  “As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.”  So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.  Romans 14:11-12 (NIV)

By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it.  But each one should build with care  For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.  If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light.  It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.  If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward.  If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved — even though only as one escaping through the flames.  I Corinthians 3:10-15 (NIV)

For we must all appear and be revealed as we are before the judgement seat of Christ, so that each one may receive [his pay] according to what he has done in the body, whether good or evil [considering what his purpose and motive have been, and what he has achieved, been busy with, and given himself and attention to accomplishing.]  II Corinthians 5:10 (AMP)

For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory (majesty, splendor) of His Father with His angels, and then He will render account and reward every man in accordance with what he has done.  Matthew 16:27 (AMP)

Loving your enemy scriptures (Enemy can be anyone with an opposing view, political party, or value system) —

You have heard it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.  But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven.  He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.  Matthew 5:44-45 (NIV)

But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.  Luke 6:27-28 (NASB)

In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.  Matthew 7:12 (NASB)
