Christians, we have all been hurt by someone or something at sometime in our lives. If I asked you, I am sure you could list a few, some of you, many names of people who hurt you and what they did to you. We are new creations in Christ Jesus, and we need to function as new creations. However, salvation does not change or heal all our personal pain. Sometimes physical or emotional healing can accompany salvation, though there are many hurts, pains, and sorrows that need to be dealt with to become whole.
I think of a simple medical procedure. If you have an old/festering wound on your arm, you have two options: a band-aid and salve that will lessen the symptoms and temporarily relieve the pain, OR an injection/small incision to drain out/clear out the problem. It will completely eliminate the issue and it should not return. I feel this analogy plays out all the time for us.
We all have our ways to treat or temporarily relieve our pains, we often cover them up and medicate them lightly (sometimes heavily). However we must choose the more painful but permanent treatment of deep healing solution. Where the issue heals, goes away, and stays away for good. Now I know that some pains are really deep, dark, and scary, but I am not suggesting you let just ANYONE perform this procedure. We have the Great Physician, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit who have pinpoint accuracy, the latest and greatest tools and technology, and the experience and résumé to assure you that they know what they are doing.
As we are all aware, Healing Hurts and sometimes the treatment is painful, but which is truly more painful? A quick cut, a needle stick, a little spiritual surgery OR the ongoing agonizing, never-ending persistent problem that prohibits us from living a full life in Christ. We need to start to ask God to start out healing our small hurts, maybe what a coworker said, or a problem you just had with your spouse. Listen to His instructions, follow them directly, and as God heals your small hurts and you see His goodness, you can begin to bring your bigger hurts to God and watch Him restore you time and time again.
God wants us to be whole, that is why He says there will be no pain, suffering, fear in heaven and He will wipe away every tear from our eyes, but I challenge you and myself, Christian. Why wait until heaven? God will start the process now and we can live full, abundant lives if we accept His healing at a deep level now, in Jesus name, Amen.
But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with his stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5 (KJV)
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow, it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)
God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death shall be no more, neither shall there be anguish (sorrow or mourning) nor grief nor pain any more, for the old conditions and the former things have passed away. Revelations 21:4 (AMP)
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. John 10:10 (NASB)
Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security. Jeremiah 33:6 (NIV)
