Someone Else’s Belongings

Christians, have you ever went into someone else’s home and brought some decorations with you, and without asking put up pictures that you thought looked cool, changed fixtures, painted, removed furniture you didn’t like?  Have you ever borrowed someone’s car and took it in to have new paint, different tires, new upholstery put in it, then tint the windows and add a spoiler?  Has someone ever lent you clothes? Did you cut them up, sew on embellishments, rip them, or dye it another color?  Hopefully you said No to these questions.  Why?

Because they are other people’s possessions.  We, generally, in this society have great respect for people’s cars, homes, clothes, belongings, etc.   We honor people when they let us use them or invite us into them. we are very careful and respectful because we know they are valuable, they they have paid a price to attain those as their own.

Recently during a praise and worship song we were singing, I received the revelation that all too often we do not treat His property like we would other people’s property.  Our MIND is God’s so what we think about God, about ourselves, about others, needs to coincide with the way God thinks about things, we can find that in His word.  My HEART belongs to God, again, what we put in our heart or allow to reside there must go along with God’s decor.  Our SOUL belongs to God, our soul encompasses our Mind, Will, and Emotions, so they too must be in line with God’s word.  I will add one more, our BODY belongs to God, His Holy Spirit dwells inside, so when we make decisions about what we do to our body or how we take care of it, it shows how much we value God’s possession.

You can say what you want: my body, my mind, my life, but first of all God created each and every one of us, just the way He likes us. If you are a Born-again believer, He bought you, redeemed you with the HIGHEST COST ON EARTH, the Blood of His Son Jesus.  So how will you treat God’s possessions from now on, look at yourself and other people as possessions of God with extremely high values that deserve honor and respect. The same level of  honor and respect we give their owner: God, in Jesus Name, Amen.

He answered, Love the Lord God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all our strength and with all your mind, and Love your neighbor as yourself.  Luke 10:27 (NIV)

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.  1 Peter 2:9 (NIV)

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?  You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.  I Corinthians 6:19-20  (NIV)
