Christians, I am reminded of a time years ago when my wife downloaded me a free game on her iPhone. It was a hunting game, where there were levels, a career mode, and overall just a fun game. I had some free time and I played it, and liked it. In fact it was a bit hard to stop. Then I had some more free time, I played it more, and I didn’t want to stop. I played it and played it and passed ¾ of it all in one day. I was sitting down to write this revelation, I had just finished playing it and I was already thinking about playing it again. I realized, I might be addicted.
Being addicted is by definition: devoted or given up to a practice or habit. I would say I was pretty devoted, practicing, and it was becoming a habit. Now, I was not sinning, just enjoying a game, and I knew I would probably beat it the next day and then the fun factor wears off and I would not play it as much, if at all. It made me think though, why am I not as “addicted” devoted to, given up to or practicing the things of my Christian walk? Ouch!
I think as Christians we all too often cannot wait to be done reading, praying, writing, ministering, praising, etc. We have other “things” to do, maybe even playing games. The fun thing about this game is I would rack up points and money I can use in their shop. Now if I can get excited about imaginary points and fake money that are intangible, why am I not more motivated by actual rewards that I will get forever in eternity, when they are promised to those who diligently, and faithfully, and to an addictive state serve the Lord.
Christians, we need to get addicted, TO GOD, to serving, to doing His will, reading His word, praying for His people, and helping secure His inheritance. We need to get our eyes focused, our minds renewed, and our hearts on fire, revved up for the things of God. This life is so temporal but we spend so much time, wasting it, doing nothing that has any impact eternally. For what? Fun? I am challenging myself, can I give up a little “fun” here every single day and spend time I normally wouldn’t, seeking God?
Maybe it is playing this game, or for someone else watching TV, or going on the computer or, playing on your phone or tablet. We need to get serious about our eternal lives, focus on our calling, the will of God, and get addicted to serving Him. Seek the Lord like He is the only thing you need (which HE IS!). Seek Him more and more, today! In Jesus Name, Amen
Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. Revelation 22:12 (NIV)
Do you not know that in a race all runner run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. II Corinthians 9:24-27 (NIV)
But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him [out]. Hebrews 11:6 (AMP)
