Christians, since the formative years of our youth, the things we have said as well as the things that have been said over us have built up in our hearts ideas, plans, emotions, desires, and dreams. We all have this, let’s call it a “city” in our heart. There are many buildings which are the plans, ideas, dreams, ambitions, goals, etc. The problem is that when we were lost, we started building our cities but we did not know Jesus, so we could not have built them on Him as the foundation.
Many times in our lives, we are put into different situations or circumstances where the Holy Spirit comes in, like a building inspector, and condemns the buildings that are unsafe. We have to stop using the building, we cannot keep it. The difficult thing is that He razes the building, levels it flat, rendering it completely destroyed. Usually it’s really painful, it could be the loss of a job or position, loss of a loved one, loss of a home, car, or just a persistent test or trial.
I have to tell you, personally I was in various tests and trials. They lasted multiple years and were very, very difficult. I felt like God demolished almost every idea, thought, plan, dream, or goal that I had in my “city”, and it was PAINFUL. It was difficult, but Christians, it was so worth it. You see, my city “looked” good, but all these flashy “buildings” had no foundation, no interior, they were like movie set cities, simple one-sided facades. God destroyed all my buildings, so He could build new ones on the solid foundation of Jesus Christ. His finished work on the cross and on His Word.
These new buildings are not as big, not as flashy, but they are safe. They are secure. They are earthquake, fire, flood, test or trial proof, and they will last FOREVER! You see all my buildings were temporal, focused on the here and now, what I could build up for myself, in this life, but the ones God is building, they are for Him, they are focused eternally. They will be in eternity and will determine my position, my place.
Christians, I reiterate that it is a PAINFUL process, difficult to go through. Some buildings are hard to watch be destroyed, but I promise that God’s promise in Jeremiah is true. He knows the plans He has for us, plans to prosper us and not harm us, plans to give us a hope and a future. Seek Him with all your heart, embrace the process, and watch what God will do, In Jesus Name, Amen.
Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect is [His sight for you]. Romans 12:2 (AMP)
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9 (NLT)
As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.” Luke 6:47-49 (NLT)
