Your Breath, Our Lungs

Christians, recently we were singing a song during praise and worship at Church and God brought something to my attention.  Part of the lyrics go, “It’s your breath, in our lungs, so we pour out our praise, we pour out our praise.”  I was singing this and the creator of the universe showed me so simply what He did in creation. He showed me the power and position available to us, and it really impacted me, I pray it impacts you too.

God had just finished creating everything up to man, He created light, darkness, earth, sky, land, sea, fish, birds, animals.  In all those instances, He spoke every single thing we see into existence. In Genesis the phrase, “and God said…” is repeated time and time and time again.  The phrase, “and it was so” is also repeated again and again. All of the power in creation was in His breath, His words, His voice…He speaks, it happens.

In Genesis 1:26-27 it says, “Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all creatures that move along the ground.  So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him male and female He created them.'” He fashioned us in HIS image, so we would be like Him. Not only that, but He created us to rule, to be stewards of His creation, we were to have all authority and all power over all creation.

In Genesis 2:7 it states, “the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”  You must imagine Adam lying there, fully formed, in God’s likeness. God leans over Adam’s body, His mouth right near Adam’s nostrils and the same breath that created EVERYTHING is breathed into Adam’s body!! His eyes snap open, His flesh comes alive, His heart is beating, His lungs drawing air in and out.  Just think of it, just God and him. Then the Lord allows him to name all creation. Adam and Eve then begin to rule and reign over God’s awesome creation.

God showed me this, He showed me the magnitude of what He did.  He showed me the POWER of our words, of our speech. People wonder why their life is the way it is and I would say, that we must take control of what we say, because it is His breath in our lungs. What ever you ‘speak’ out about your life is powerful! So when I look at my life, I have to wonder how many times I ended up somewhere because, “…and Daniel said…and it was so.” God says in His word, ‘LIFE and DEATH are in the power of the tongue’. He also talks about how dangerous the things we say can be.

God did not give us this breath lightly, He did not give us this breath for evil.  He gave us this breath to bring His love to the hurting whom have not experienced it for themselves. To love the unlovable, to restore, to renew, to refresh others.  Have you ever spoken words of life and seen someone’s face come to life? (it’s that same breath) Have you ever cut someone down, and seen the life drain from their face?  It is the same power Jesus used on the fig tree. God desires for us to love Him, to pour out our praise, and to love others as ourselves. One big problem we face is that many people do not love themselves, so how could they possibly love others?  Christians, I charge us with the calling, to step into the positions we were CREATED for, to rule and reign in this earth.

When Adam and Eve sinned, they handed over that authority to Satan, He became the ruler of this world.  Through one man’s sin, we gave away all authority. But God had a plan. Jesus came. When He came and died, He regained the power and authority over all creation, and He waits for us.  He waits for us, to realize what God created us for, then when we understand and start to walk things out, He gives us authority to show our position. You see, Jesus Himself, said we will do GREATER works than He did.  How did Jesus do all of these works? “And Jesus said…and it was so…” Jesus said to the woman, your faith has healed you. He told Lazarus to come forth. He spoke to othersyou are clean, awake little girl, thank you Father for blessing this food, and spoke to the wind and waves to be still. The same creative, restorative power resided in Him, and He longs for it to reside in us. What are we waiting for?

Father God, I pray that you impart the same wisdom to everyone that reads this that you imparted to me, you are no respecter of persons.  Anyone who wants to step into their God designed calling, I pray you bless and anoint them to walk this life out, that they may love you, love others, and through their lives they pour out their praise to you, now and forevermore, in Jesus Name, Authority, and Power, Amen.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].  Proverbs 18:21 (AMP)

Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way. Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right!  Does a spring of water bubble out with both fresh water and bitter water? Does a fig tree produce olives, or a grapevine produce figs? No, and you can’t draw fresh water from a salty spring. If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.  James 3:2, 9-13 (NLT)

A gentle answer deflects anger,  but harsh words make tempers flare.  Proverbs 15:1 (NLT)

Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.  Ephesians 4:29 (NLT)

And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak.  The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.  Matthew 12:36-37 (NLT)
