Christians, my belt broke. The buckle came off right in my hand. I checked to make sure I had all the pieces, then I set out to repair it. It was a multi-step repair. In my mind, it would have taken two minutes to fix it. When I began to fix it, I actually had to take it further apart to repair the first point. Now mind you, while I worked on it, I had taken my belt off, it was not possible to fix it while wearing it, it was just too complicated.
After I repaired the first point, I turned my attention to the second point. Now this is an area I had worked on a while back, the last time that I had fixed my belt. I had done a temporary fix, but I knew in my mind that it would require further repair at a later time. Not then, not at that time, but now that I had it fully dis-assembled, I actually cut off the end of the leather, and notched it in a certain way. Then I began the process of re-assembling it, and it was a process. I tried to drive these two screws flush, but they would not go down. I had to take it apart three to four times. I worked and worked at it. I knew as I worked on it, God was showing me a lesson.
He showed me that it is exactly how He works on me, on us. Christians, in times when you are waiting on God, where you are not being used for your purpose, God’s working on you. He is fixing your functionality, He is cutting away areas of weakness, He takes the time to work with you to tediously get you set into your new surroundings. He wants you to be safe and secure, strong and functioning. For your own good and for the purposes He has intended for you.
I like my belt, I do not love it, but I want it to function and last as long as it can, so I can use it and use it, day in and day out. The repair was so necessary that I could not trust my belt without it. As repetitive and time consuming as the repair was, it was worth it, in the end, I am glad I fixed it. I have full confidence in it now. I am also glad God LOVES me so much He sent His son, to buy me, an old broken, messed up belt. Just so He could fix me, and then to give me a purpose, functionality, and a place with Him forever. How awesome is our God? Father God, thank you for taking the time to work on us while we wait. Thank you for repairing our broken parts, tightening us up where we are living loosely, and cutting away things that do not fit into your plan and purpose. We trust you in this process and trust that it is for our good and to bring you Glory, In Jesus Name, Amen.
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace [who imparts all blessing and favor] who has called you to His [own] eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will Himself complete and make you what you ought to be, establish and ground you securely, and strengthen and settle you. I Peter 5:10 (AMP)
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. Ephesians 2:10 (NASB)
Therefore brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you, for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you. II Peter 1:10-11 (NASB)
For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose. Philippians 2:13 (NIV)
