Certain Uncertainty

Christians, have you ever been so sure about nothing?  Have you ever been to a point where you are so uncertain of everything?  This is a point where you might feel “off track.” The enemy may be lying to you, saying that God has left you, or it will not work out.  That is simply not true!  When we know we are being obedient, and we are in the will of God, yet we have “physical” uncertainties, we must look to the one verse that we can have complete certainty about.

Tucked away in the 8th chapter of Romans, verse 28, God is letting us know that He is working ALL THINGS for GOOD for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.  I cannot tell you, Christians, how many times in the wilderness, in the testing, trial or persecution, where I have had so much uncertainty and yet been so certain it was for my GOOD.  God is not like us, He does not lie.  He will work it for my good.  With so many things we have faced, we are facing, and what we WILL face as Christians, it is so amazing to know that we do not need to have it all figured out, we just need to love God and be in His will and EVERYTHING that is happening is for our good.

Time and time again, God has proven Himself faithful. Sometimes you cannot see it, when it is fresh, or it has just happened, but the further you get away from any pain or frustration, you begin to clearly see what God is doing.  The uncertainty, I do not know if it will ever go away.  I think we only have uncertainty because we are looking at a particular situation and we have a plan OTHER than God’s and it is not working out “our way” or in “our timing”, creating uncertainty.

I think the most difficult challenge we face, Christians, is the day in which we live.  Our modern, fast paced society does not allow for God to move.  We have 3 year plans, 5 year plans, 10 year plans.  If you are not “on track” with the world, the American dream, then something is wrong.  Whether you are a high school senior recently graduated feeling forced into a 4 year degree because that’s what everyone is doing.  Maybe you’re a mid level manager in a firm because it pays the bills and it is safe, but you feel called to something more.  We too often look at how things will work out if we do not do what is expected of us from the world.  The reality, as Christians, we need to wonder how difficult our life will be if we do not accomplish what God has called us to do.

We must renew our minds, despite the difficulty. Removing all timetables, plans, thoughts, schedules, then simply take our life one day at a time.  We need to rest in the CERTAINTY of our footsteps being ORDERED by the Lord. We could be certain that whatever God has put before us for today is where I am supposed to be.  He will give me the grace and strength to face it.  I think if we can make it to this point, we could see our certainty increase and our uncertainty would be eliminated.  Take this life one day, one moment at a time, look for God in EVERYTHING you do and be certain that through it all, He WILL work it for your good, in Jesus Name, Amen.

Update:  Christians, I originally wrote this post 8/10/2012.  I was in a very uncertain time and I wrote this post in great faith, not seeing how things would work out, but confident that they would.  8 years later, I can tell you that anything I was uncertain of at that time, I can see how it was worked out for my good and for God’s glory.  I say this because in 2021 we are heading into some uncertain times as the Church.  The election maybe didn’t go the way we thought, the country may be headed into some uncertain times.  Many people are still facing financial struggles because of the shutdowns and restrictions. We are still facing uncertainty with COVID, the vaccine, even new strains, but that doesn’t mean we can not be certain because God is still in control.  We may not see how this year will go, but if we love God and are called according to His will and purpose, it will be for our good.  We may not see it right away, some things take years to get enough distance from, to see how it works for our good, but trust me it does, and it will.  So be strong and courageous in God, knowing He is in control.

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.  Romans 8:28 (NASB)

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will.  Romans 12:2 (NIV)

So do not worry, saying, “what shall we eat?” or “what shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?” For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.  But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own.  Matthew 6:31-34 (NIV)

The steps of a good man are led by the Lord. And He is happy in his way.  When he falls, he will not be thrown down, because the Lord holds his hand.  I have been young, and now I am old. Yet I have never seen the man who is right with God left alone, or his children begging for bread.  All day long he is kind and lets others use what he has. And his children make him happy.  Psalm 37:23-25 (NLT)
