Christians, years ago I was in the car on the way home from Church on a Tuesday night in Indiana, I was thinking about the situation and the circumstances God had put me in. God told me to wait, but He didn’t say how long, not sure exactly what for either. I was in the midst of that waiting season. I was thinking about all the stuff that was going on, I was starting to get my physical man worked up a bit. I looked up at the sign that another Church had out in front, and it said “God may have told you to wait, but He didn’t tell you to worry.”
It struck me right between the eyes, the Maker of the heavens and the earth used a little Church sign to tell me something. He was saying, “I told you to wait, not to worry.” I felt so much better, I realized I couldn’t do anything about the circumstances right then and there anyway, I gave it to God and felt much better.
Christians God is speaking, are we listening? I could have shrugged that sign off and went back to my thoughts, but I heard Him and I listened to what He was saying. The problem is God doesn’t always use big signs, or His audible voice. He might tell you something through someone younger, or on a perceived lower spiritual level than you. He may test you to see if you will receive it from someone you think you are ahead of, to challenge your pride. He may be waiting for you to take time, quiet your thoughts and listen to Him directly. It could be a sunrise, a scripture, or a song. God has messages, words of encouragement, direction, guidance, clarity, encouragement, and edification for us. But we have to have our spiritual ears open to listen to hear that it is Him saying it and then we need to obey directions and follow His lead.
God loves us much more than we know. He has a plan more thought out than we know. He has the desire to encourage and direct us and guide us much more than we know, but we have to be listening. God doesn’t always speak in the 5 minutes we tend to give Him in prayer. He may want to speak during your favorite TV show, on your coffee break while you were going to surf the web, while you’re driving, listening to your favorite 80’s rock song. If we don’t open ourselves up to receive during those times, we won’t hear Him. It doesn’t mean He won’t say it again, but let’s not make our own situations last longer because we are not listening.
Take a moment, quiet yourself, what is God saying to you right now? Father God, I pray you speak clearly to the spirit of anyone who takes a moment to seek you right now. I pray you give them eyes to see, and ears to hear what you want them to know, about how much you love them, and about the good things you have in store for them, in Your will, and in Your timing, In Jesus Name, Amen.
My son, if you accept my words, and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding – indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:1-6 (NIV)
Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God. John 8:47 (NIV)
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: John 10:47 (KJV)
