Don’t Miss Out on the Future by Missing the Past

Christians, God says in His Word that He knows the plans He has for us, plans to prosper us and not to harm us, plans for a hope and a FUTURE.  I think too often, we stare at the past and forget to look toward the future and those plans He has for us.  Through many seasons of trial and testing, God showed me that when I began the testing, I would say, “I miss doing this…I miss experiencing that…I miss that place…” *Note: all the things I was missing; the places, the events, the enjoyments, were not linked to my sinful past, they were just good pure memories.

After a long while, I realized I do not miss those things anymore.  God was changing me to have different mindsets, different ideas, convictions, revelations, etc. One day it dawned on me that I don’t miss those things because God’s purpose is to take me back to those places and put me in a position to be able to do all of those things again, but in a different way.  If I missed them so much, then I would surely pursue after them and try to re-create them, try to have the same fun again.

I realized and analyzed the scenarios.  The new person God made me into by His Spirit, would do all those things differently now. So I really could not miss those memories because I would never be able to have the exact same experience. God was waiting for me to mature and change so that I would come up to the level of understanding where I could say that I do not miss my past anymore! He desires for me to be happy in my current situation and have an open mind about the future. To live in the here and now and be present.

I now understand that God changed me into this person, who is new. I can still think about the fun times I had, but when I think about the future, I think about going back to the the places expecting – NOTHING to be like it was! Through the constant renewing of my mind, I look forward to experiencing old places with new mature mindsets!

God’s plans to prosper us resides in our transitions and trials. I truly believe that a large part is: appreciating the past; it was where God HAD me; enjoying the current because it is where God HAS me; and anticipating the future because it is where God is TAKING me!  Do not miss out on the future by holding onto the past, God has so much more for you, In Jesus Name, Amen.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

Consider the blameless, observe the upright; a future awaits those who seek peace.  Psalms 37:37 (NIV)

Do not let your heart envy sinners, but live in the fear of the Lord always.  Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off. Proverbs 23:17-18 (NASB)

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will.  Romans 12:2 (NIV)

I do not consider, brethren, that I have captured and made it my own [yet]; but one thing I do [it is my one aspiration] forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press toward the goal to win the [supreme and heavenly] prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward.  Philippians 3:13-14 (AMP)
