Passion: The Source is Key

Christians, we have talked before about Conviction, Education, Application, and Passion.  Passion has an interesting source and growth pattern.  I truly believe to be passionate, you need love.  When we think about the Passion of Jesus, He loved the Father so much that He laid down His life for us.  Despite who we were and what we had done.  He made difficult decisions for His physical man, even though He lived a pure life, He did it for Love, for God.  Without the passion, he would have failed, if He didn’t love God more than Himself, He wouldn’t have done it.  He had passion for the Father’s will to be complete.  It is the same for us.

The source must be greater than yourself.  Why? Because some days you may not love yourself; in our weak flesh, we cannot rely solely on love for self, or for our own personal desires.  Other sources people look toward are their spouse, their kids, grandchildren, family, friends as their source for passion.  I do not think it is wrong, but I think that idea is flawed.  What if their spouse, child, grandchild, etc, disappoints, hurts, or offends them?  Jesus died for the very people who spat in His face, for the Father’s will to be complete. As humans, we would quit on people for a lot less.  Also, what if your source for passion died? When the things you were once passionate about become a burden, they will be too heavy for you to carry.

The only safe source for our passion is God.  We know of His great love and sacrifice to bring us back into relationship through Jesus.  We have a great reason to love and adore Him, to serve and Honor Him with our lives.  Also, the Word says He will never leave us nor forsake us, so we know that a passion rooted in our love for God will not die/fade away.

There is one more difficult concept, what about when this God Almighty, I love, allows “bad” things to affect my life?  We must remember His promises in Jeremiah “to prosper not to harm” and Romans “to work everything for good.”  Even in tests and trials there is no reason that our passions should fail.  He is the perfect source that will ONLY lead us to success!

Jesus faced the cross in faith, He did not give up when beaten, when strung up, when He died, because God led Him through that, to His right hand, with all Authority and Dominion under His feet.  Make sure you press in and find out why God desires to be your source for passion. Set it in your mind/heart, and pursue after Him, to the end, filled with love, mercy determination, and a passion to love Him as He loves you, and to then love others as yourself.  In Jesus Name, Amen.

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 (NIV)

And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.  Colossians 3:14 (NIV)

And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love.  But the greatest of these is love.  I Corinthians 13:13 (NIV)

Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.  All the Law and Prophets hang on these two commandments.  Matthew 22:37-40 (NIV)

We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting Him, He endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now He is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Hebrews 12:2 (NLT)
